The crowded field of artificial intelligence assistants has received a new contender from one of the industry's leading research firms.

Anthropic has officially introduced Claude Duet, a mobile and web based application designed specifically for professionals and small business owners. The company aims to distinguish this new agent from the wave of personal productivity tools that have emerged recently. Rather than focusing on casual user needs, Duet is built to manage and automate professional tasks. It seeks to compete directly with established rivals such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, and several other emerging platforms in the market.

Anthropic has drawn a clear line between Duet and personal agents like Instinct. The company notes that the new tool is not designed for handling simple errands or booking travel tickets. It also does not provide a live view of its browser activity. Instead, the agent focuses on generating daily briefings, creating data dashboards, and suggesting strategic actions based on user information. This approach aligns with a broader market shift toward agents that work on behalf of users rather than just answering questions.

The application operates through a virtual machine that allows it to complete tasks in the background. Users can continue with their own work while Duet processes requests. If the agent requires approval for a specific step, it will notify the user. This structure is intended to streamline workflows for busy professionals who need reliable automation without constant supervision.

The platform is powered by the Claude Opus 5.5 model and offers extensive connectivity. Anthropic states that Duet can link to more than six thousand connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This broad integration allows the agent to interact with a wide variety of professional tools and software systems. The company is positioning this connectivity as a key advantage over competitors that may have more limited app ecosystems.

Financial transactions are handled with specific safeguards in place. Duet can make online purchases on behalf of users through Stripe's Link digital wallet or Shopify's Shop Pay. However, the company emphasized that sensitive steps require explicit user approval. The agent is not authorized to trade securities or transfer money between bank accounts. This limitation is designed to maintain user control over significant financial actions while still allowing for automated shopping tasks.

Security measures are a central feature of the new release. Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scans each message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent will decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification. This proactive approach to data privacy aims to address common concerns regarding the use of artificial intelligence in professional settings.

Claude Duet is currently available on iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible via the web for Pro and Max customers through Claude.ai. The application is in a research preview phase, meaning it is not yet generally available to all users. Those interested in testing the new agent must join a waitlist to gain access. This phased rollout allows the company to gather feedback and refine the system before a wider launch.
