A shooting at a West Baltimore youth football game that killed 12-year-old Khloe Ishway on Oct. 3 began with an argument two days earlier, according to an indictment filed after police first attributed the violence to a parking dispute.
Prosecutors say Tyree Reynolds, the man accused of opening fire, and an associate pulled a gun on a man and struck him in the face on Oct. 1. That man said he later attended football games at Leon Day Park on Oct. 3, and as he and a friend left, they passed Reynolds, the indictment says. Reynolds "briefly addressed the two men and then swung his backpack from around his shoulder and removed a firearm and began shooting" at them in front of a crowded field.
The man, who holds a concealed-carry permit, took cover behind a pickup truck and fired back, the indictment states. He and his friend were wounded, as was Reynolds, who was hit in the ankle. Khloe Ishway, a bystander, was killed, and another adult was injured. The man who returned fire has not been charged and is not named in the indictment.
Reynolds had been released from prison eight days before the shooting, after serving time for a 2021 shootout. A sentence reduction came after a senior official in the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement vouched for him. He is being held without bond on first-degree murder charges and related counts. Police have not responded to questions about their initial account of what prompted the shooting.
