The latest iPad mini reaches a peak screen brightness of 1,200 nits, a substantial increase over the previous model. Apple unveiled the device on Thursday, emphasizing its enhanced display and processor capabilities. The tablet retains its compact form factor while adding features aimed at both creative work and daily use.
The 8.5-inch OLED panel provides deeper blacks and more vivid colors. A nanotextured finish option is available to reduce glare in bright environments. The device runs on the A20 Pro processor, which Apple says delivers performance up to 4.5 times faster for artificial intelligence tasks. Graphics processing is up to 2.7 times quicker than the prior generation.
These hardware upgrades support smoother video editing, illustration work, and gaming. The tablet operates on iPadOS 27, which includes a new version of Siri and Apple Intelligence tools. These features allow users to search for information based on personal context and perform actions related to on-screen content. Apple stated that its AI functions use on-device processing combined with Private Cloud Compute to protect user privacy.
The new model is 5.4 millimeters thin, making it lighter and slimmer than its predecessor. It carries an IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. A 12-megapixel front camera is positioned along the long edge of the screen to facilitate video calls in landscape mode. The rear camera is also 12 megapixels and records 4K video.
Audio quality has been improved with an acoustic system integrated into the screen for higher volume and better bass. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Cellular models feature a new modem that Apple claims reaches data speeds 50% higher than the previous generation. The device supports the Apple Pencil USB-C and Apple Pencil Pro, as well as a new Smart Folio cover with adjustable viewing angles.
Pre-orders are open now, with the tablets arriving in stores and to customers on November 6. The iPad mini is available in Midnight and Starlight colors with storage options of 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. In the United States, the Wi-Fi model starts at $699, while the Wi-Fi and cellular version starts at $849.
Apple also announced new MacBook Pro and iMac computers equipped with the M6 processor. The 14-inch MacBook Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR display and a six-speaker sound system. Its graphics are up to 30% faster than the previous generation, and the battery lasts up to 24 hours. The device starts at $1,999. The new iMac includes a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display in an ultrathin design, starting at $1,499. Both new computers become available on November 6.
