New York State Police Sgt. Steven P. Calderon was charged with second and third-degree assault following a domestic dispute in Orange County. Authorities say the incident left his former intimate partner with serious injuries.
Crawford police reported that they responded to a home on Bullville Road on Saturday, Oct. 24, to investigate a physical domestic dispute. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of the injuries sustained during the altercation.
Officers arrested Calderon the following day on Sunday, Oct. 25. He was brought before the Orange County Centralized Arraignment Court, where he was released on his own recognizance without bail. A judge also issued an order of protection for the victim.
Beau Duffy, a spokesperson for the New York State Police, confirmed that Calderon is assigned to the Middletown barracks. The department immediately suspended him without pay following his arrest. Duffy noted that integrity is a core value for the force and that members are held to a high standard.
Duffy stated that allegations of misconduct are investigated thoroughly and that those who violate regulations or the law are held accountable for their actions. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
