AC Milan fell 4-2 to Bologna on Wednesday at San Siro.

The defeat lands three days before the Derby della Madonnina against Inter on Saturday. Milan entered the halftime break leading 2-1. They conceded three goals in the second half to lose the match. The result places the Rossoneri seven points behind Serie A leaders Inter and Lazio.

Samuel Mbangula opened the scoring for Bologna. Alphadjo Cisse responded for Milan with two goals. Cisse has emerged as a standout performer for the club this season. Davide Bartesaghi scored an own goal after the restart to level the match. Mbangula added two more goals, including a hat trick goal, to seal the 4-2 victory for the visitors.

Coach Ruben Amorim blamed second half fatigue for the collapse. He told DAZN Italy that the team faced many games with several players unavailable. He noted that the squad struggled to maintain their pressing style for the full ninety minutes. Amorim stated, 'When we stop playing our football, we suffer.' He also pointed out that Milan missed a chance to equalize through Camarda.

Amorim took over from Manchester United in the summer. He replaced the previous coaching staff and sporting hierarchy under owner Gerry Cardinale. The American businessman made the changes after a difficult previous season. The loss to Bologna adds pressure on Amorim just before the high stakes derby. He said the team would decide on squad selection on Thursday. Amorim insisted the team must win against Inter, stating, 'We are Milan, and we always have to win.'

The upcoming match against Inter serves as a test for Amorim's tenure. A positive result could stabilize his position at the club. A loss could lead to further changes in the management structure. The team has limited time to prepare for the fixture.
