Elon Musk significantly intensified his financial support for the Republican cause during the final two weeks of the midterm campaign, directing more than $76 million to his personal political committee, America PAC. According to a pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening, the influx of capital was designed to bolster GOP candidates in the closing stretch of the election. The organization deployed nearly $43 million during this specific period, while retaining a cash reserve of approximately $47 million as it entered the final leg of the campaign.

The Texas Senate race consumed the largest share of this new expenditure, attracting $15.2 million in the two-week window. This amount was double the total amount America PAC had spent in that state throughout the summer. The breakdown of these funds revealed a heavy focus on the Democratic candidate, James Talarico, who faced $12.4 million in attack ads. By comparison, his Republican opponent, Ken Paxton, received $2.8 million in supportive messaging. Subsequent daily filings indicate that another $9.1 million was spent against Talarico, bringing the total expenditure against him this cycle to nearly $28 million, which represents about 40 percent of the PAC's total spending on candidates.

The committee also marked a strategic shift in its advertising channels. In the same two-week period, America PAC allocated $11.4 million to digital advertisements. This figure is nearly equivalent to the combined spending on traditional mail and texting efforts, signaling a pivot toward online voter outreach. Overall, Musk has contributed more than $445 million to Republican political groups for this election cycle, according to an analysis of FEC filings. This total has established him as the largest known individual donor in the midterms, with more than $165 million directed to America PAC since July alone.

Musk, whose major enterprises Tesla and SpaceX are headquartered in Texas, has also engaged directly in the race via social media. On Wednesday, he posted on X that he found Talarico to be "a creep," asserting without cited evidence that the Democrat "would vote to take away your kids and transition them." Earlier in the month, Musk amplified a claim that Talarico had been treated at a mental health facility. Talarico responded to the comments on the same day, stating that there is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator.

Despite the heavy spending, the Texas contest remains statistically close. An Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters, conducted between October 17 and 19, placed Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent. The difference falls within the poll's three-point margin of error, keeping the race classified as a toss-up. America PAC declined to comment on the recent filings or strategy.

The implications of the election results extend beyond the Senate seat. If Democrats secure the House, committee leaders have indicated plans to investigate Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency, as well as his companies’ federal contracts. California Democrat Zoe Lofgren described the number of potential conflicts of interest as "astounding." Unified Democratic control of Congress would likely present even greater challenges for the billionaire.

Further scrutiny is expected from Silicon Valley Democrats, who added restrictions on SpaceX’s Starshield satellite service in Ukraine to their list of concerns on Friday. In a letter to the White House calling for an investigation, Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna vowed that the incoming Congress would closely scrutinize federal funding awarded to Musk’s businesses.
