The Baltimore Ravens signed 26-year-old quarterback Austin Reed to their practice squad on Monday, November 2, 2026. The move addresses an immediate crisis in the passing game that left the team without a healthy veteran starter or reliable backup during a recent loss to the Buffalo Bills.
First-team starter Lamar Jackson requires surgery for a thumb injury. The procedure will place the two-time MVP on injured reserve for a minimum of four games. His primary replacement, Tyler Huntley, is also out of action with a turf toe injury that will sideline him for several weeks.
With both established options unavailable, rookie Joe Fagnano stepped in for his National Football League debut against Buffalo. The front office moved quickly to secure additional depth before the team faces the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, November 5.
Reed spent the recent season playing for the Dallas Renegades in the UFL. He already participated in parts of the Ravens' preseason training camp this year. That prior familiarity with the offensive system is expected to ease his transition into the active roster. To create a roster spot for Reed, the franchise released fullback Lucas Scott.
The Ravens' injury report now lists three quarterbacks. Jackson’s thumb surgery remains the most severe of the group of injuries. Huntley’s turf toe is considered a soft tissue issue that typically resolves without major time loss compared to a surgical repair. Fagnano has no reported injuries but lacks the experience of the two veterans currently on the sidelines.
