Community organizations across the Hamptons have scheduled a series of parades, flag ceremonies, and speeches to honor veterans, with the main day of observance falling on Wednesday, November 11. These events are organized by local foundations, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The first event takes place on Sunday, November 8, in East Moriches. The Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches will lead a parade starting at 2 p.m. at the Eagle on the corner of Montauk Highway and Adelaide Avenue. The route proceeds down Montauk Highway to Soldiers and Sailors Park, where a ceremony will honor Vietnam War veteran Lee Sinnickson. Participants will then move to the East Moriches Fire Department for refreshments. Victoria Hedberg can be reached at 516-527-1008 for those needing transport arrangements.

On November 11, East Hampton and Amagansett will host a joint observance. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 550 parade starts at 10 a.m. at the former VFW building, now London Jewelers, on Main Street. The procession ends at the Memorial Green for a brief ceremony. Participants then travel to the American Legion Post 419 in Amagansett for its 11 a.m. service.

Sag Harbor begins its day at 10 a.m. with a parade from the Civil War monument at Main and Madison streets. The route concludes at the American Legion on Bay Street. Local veterans are asked to meet at the legion at 9:30 a.m. to join the march.

Southampton’s Commission on Veterans Patriotic Events will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. in Agawam Park. A short parade will precede the service, moving from the First Presbyterian Church parking lot. Prudence Carabine will speak at the event, noting that her late brother, husband, and son were all veterans. Refreshments will be served at the Veterans Memorial Hall afterward.

In Montauk, the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Suzanne Koch Gosman Flagpole Garden. Girl Scout Troop 825 will conduct the flag raising and wreath-laying. Faith Mulally will sing the national anthem, and U.S. Coast Guard Station Montauk station chief Collin Snovell will offer remarks.

Hampton Bays concludes the day’s events with a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hand-Aldrich Post 924, located at 55 Ponquogue Avenue. Lieutenant Commander Robert Scribnor, a U.S. Navy veteran, is the guest speaker. Attendees should be seated by 10:30 a.m. A 50/50 raffle winner will be drawn during the post-ceremony refreshments.
