Forty-five minutes. That is the window Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar has allocated for veterans to speak directly to students at MS 210Q in Ozone Park on Friday, Nov. 6. The session, titled Voices of Veterans, runs from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
The program brings together service members from various branches and time periods. These veterans will offer first-hand accounts of their military careers. Students will have the chance to engage with these speakers and learn about their specific experiences. The event also includes a moment of reflection for those who died in combat.
Rajkumar promoted the gathering through a local flyer. In that document, she stated, “Veteran’s Day is a time to express our deepest thanks to all who have served our country.” She added, “Their courage, commitment and sacrifices have shaped the freedoms we cherish.”
The Assembly Member is calling on the Ozone Park community to attend. She is also asking veterans who wish to share their stories to contact New York City Public Schools. Additionally, she is seeking community volunteers to help facilitate the morning’s activities.
In a separate remark, Rajkumar said, “We encourage everyone to attend and show their gratitude to our veterans.” She concluded, “Let us come together to listen, learn and honor their service.” The next scheduled step is for interested community members to reach out to the school district to secure their spots.
