Election officials expect to finish counting ballots by tomorrow afternoon, leaving both candidates without a clear path to a governing majority.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former military chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot remain too close to call following record voter turnout in Israel. The election will determine whether Netanyahu retains his office or is replaced by Eisenkot, a center-right rival. Neither candidate currently holds a decisive lead in the final tallies.
Voters cast their ballots on Tuesday, October 27. Early projections suggested Eisenkot held an advantage as counts began. By Wednesday morning, Netanyahu had pulled ahead, shifting the race into a statistical tie. Election officials stated they anticipate completing the vote count by the afternoon of October 29. If no single bloc secures a majority, the process of forming a coalition may take several days or weeks.
The leading candidate has six weeks to assemble a governing coalition. This period will likely involve negotiations with defectors from the opposing camp. Eisenkot may gain support from Arab-led parties in parliament, as those groups expressed a preference for him to serve as prime minister. However, Eisenkot's camp has shown hesitation toward such a coalition due to mistrust that emerged after the October 7, 2023 attacks. Analysts note that neither candidate possesses a straightforward path to a majority.
The election outcome will set the political direction for the next government. Final results depend on the remaining ballot counts and subsequent coalition talks. Parties are preparing for intensive negotiations to secure enough seats to form a cabinet.
The Democratic Republic of Congo reported that the Ebola outbreak has surpassed 10,000 confirmed infections since its declaration in May. The outbreak has spread faster than any in history and covers the largest geographic scope to date, extending from Nigeria to Kenya. Nearly 5,000 people have died, with children accounting for approximately one-third of those fatalities.
The Federal Reserve is scheduled to meet on October 28 to discuss monetary policy. Investor expectations indicate the central bank will hold interest rates steady rather than raising them. Consumer prices rose 3.7% in September compared to the previous year, marking a larger annual increase than the month before. Fed policymakers raised rates in September, but market participants anticipate a cautious approach ahead of the upcoming U.S. Election Day.
