Adolfo Fernando Ruiz Morales, 53, died from critical injuries sustained in a collision with a Washington Metrobus. The accident occurred on Monday, Oct. 5, near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and New Hampshire Avenue NW. His family is now raising funds to transport his remains to Guatemala.
Tomas Alejo organized the campaign to cover the transportation costs. The goal is to raise $5,000. As of Sunday, Nov. 1, the GoFundMe had collected $1,495 from 19 donors. The family has ties to the Bruce-Monroe at Park View Elementary School community, where neighbors and school families are being asked for support.
Ruiz Morales was a construction worker who was struck while returning from work. He was rushed to a hospital following the crash but later died from his injuries. The financial burden of repatriation adds to the family's mourning. Alejo has encouraged anyone who can help to contribute or share the campaign, extending the appeal beyond those who knew Ruiz Morales personally.
Alejo stated that no family should face such a loss alone while worrying about how to bring a loved one home. He noted that every donation, regardless of amount, makes a difference. For those unable to give financially, he asked them to share the fundraiser. The goal is to help the family bring Adolfo home for his final resting place.
