The Washington Regional Alcohol Program will provide free Lyft rides to adults in the Greater Washington area this weekend. The initiative aims to keep impaired drivers off the road during the Halloween holiday.
Users can claim a credit of up to $15 per day. WRAP will publish the promo codes on its website at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The codes are valid for redemption from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. via the payment tab in the Lyft app. Each user receives one code per day.
Kurt Gregory Erickson, president and CEO of WRAP, stated that the offer covers D.C., several Northern Virginia counties, and most of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Availability depends on driver supply in those zones.
Kamillah Wood, director of public policy for community safety at Lyft, said in a release that the partnership provides tools for people to protect themselves. The SoberRide program has operated since 1991. It sponsored 4,056 rides last Halloween, a high for the group. Over the past 35 years, the organization has funded more than 105,000 free rides in the local market.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data shows that half of fatal crashes involving drivers aged 21 to 34 around Halloween from 2019 to 2024 included an intoxicated driver. WRAP also issues codes for New Year’s, the Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and the Fourth of July.
